EUROPEAN BOARD OF VASCULAR SURGERY
EBSQ-VASC ASSESSMENTS 1996
EUROPEAN BOARD OF SURGERY QUALIFICATION IN VASCULAR SURGERY
Subject to the completion of satisfactory arrangements by the European Boards of Surgery and Vascular Surgery, the first assessments for EBSQ-VASC certification will take place in Venice on Wednesday 11th September 1996, to coincide with the annual meetings of the ESVS and European Chapter of the ISCVS.
Potential candidates are invited to register their interest in writing, before 10th May 1996, to the Hon.Secretary of the European Board of Vascular Surgery, c/o Department of Vascular Surgery, Catharina Hospital, Michelangelolaan 2, 5623 EJ Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Full details and application forms will be issued shortly after this date.
The EBSQ-VASC is not intended to be an examination requiring intensive revision. It is to be a two part assessment of the standard of training in vascular surgery acquired by candidates. For Part 1 (eligibility) details of training experience, including log book information, will be submitted on a standardised application form. Requirements for Part 1 must be met before proceeding to Part 2 and it is anticipated that this will be the principal discriminator between successful and unsuccessful applications. Part 2 will be a viva voce interview the purpose of which is to a) verify that the information furnished by the candidate in Part l is an accurate reflection of his/her training experience and b) to assess his/her level of clinical expertise.
EBSQ-VASC certification will indicate that the holder has been trained in vascular surgery to a level appropriate for independent specialised vascular surgical practice. The standard set for successful applications will be high. It is to be a voluntary qualification intended to enhance the career prospects of individual surgeons and to promote optimal training in vascular surgery throughout the EU.
Applicants must be: a) citizens of countries with rights of full membership of the Union Europeene des Medecins Specialistes (UEMS) ie.EU member states, Switzerland and Norway; and b) in possession of a valid Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) issued by a national licensing authority of one of these countries. A fee will be charged to applicants, payable only upon return of a completed EBSQ-VASC application form.
