In his last movie Trafic Tati gives his own vision on the modern traffic. Tati had turned Hulot from a employable figure into a draftsman for a car-customizing firm Altra. The movie tells the story of the journey from the Altra factory to the international motor show in Amsterdam. There he want to show the prototype of his highly modern travel car. The journey isn't going to be without problems like an empty fuel tank and a flat tire.

When Hulot arrives at the Dutch border, his car has to get inspected by the border guards. Hulot loses a lot of time. Then, after a while, he gets stranded at the highway in a strange chaos. Cars cash dancing on music against each other.

Hulot's car gets damaged. It takes him several days to fix before he continues his journey.

Hulot and his crew arrives to late in Amsterdam; the last visitors are gone and the car exhibition has closed.

A lot of the scenes of Trafic are shot in the Netherlands. Originally the Dutch movie maker Bert Haanstra would co-direct-direct the movie but it didn't work out between him and Tati. Both had different visions about shooting the movie. The only scenes left of Haanstra shows the funny ways people behave in their cars.
